SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team finished in third place at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate match play event played this week at Sweetens Cove Golf Club in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
The Bruins lost to Western Carolina 4-2 in their semifinal match, but bounced back and defeated host Miami (OH) in the third place match 3.5-2.5 in nine holes.
In their semifinal match, Belmont could not catch the Catamounts on the last seven holes and fell to WCU 4-2.
Junior Michael Senn earned the lone Belmont win as he defeated Ivan Ninkovic 5&4. In addition, freshman
Jack Darke and senior
Reeve Felner halved their matches.
Later in the afternoon in the third place match, the Bruins outlasted Miami (OH) 3.5-2.5 in a shortened nine hole tilt.
Leading the way for BU was Senn as he beat Danny Fisher 2-up to complete an undefeated record at the event. Felner also earned a point as he edged Morgan Blythe 1 up, while freshman
Jack Darke also posted an undefeated record as he tied with Egor Zotov in his match.
Western Carolina won the team title as they beat High Point 4-2 in the championship match.
The men's golf team has a couple of weeks off before returning to action on April 8-9 at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate in Old Hickory, Tennessee.
