Women's Tennis Welcomes Missouri State Saturday

 
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Closing out a four-match homestand, the Belmont University women's tennis team hosts Missouri State Saturday morning on campus at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex. First serve of the Missouri Valley Conference home matchup is slated for 10 a.m. from the Music City.
 
The Bruins (8-7, 1-1 MVC) are going for their second consecutive MVC win after taking care of visiting Bradley, 5-2, last Sunday.
 
The Bears (10-6, 1-1 MVC) visit Nashville following a 5-2 loss at Murray State Friday.
 
Belmont swept Missouri State 4-0 late last March in Springfield, Missouri. After winning the doubles point, the Bruins claimed victories at the last three singles spots in the lineup.
 
Sophomore Mariia Hlahola is the reigning MVC Singles Player of the Week after capturing her second player of the week award of the season Wednesday. The Kyiv, Ukraine, native won both of her No. 1 singles matches last weekend in three sets.
 
Freshman Vesa Gjinaj has also been impressive in singles this spring, owning an 11-4 record in dual matches and going 8-4 at the No. 2 spot.
 
The Bears opened MVC play with a 6-1 home win over Northern Iowa after going 9-5 in non-conference action. Although 6-0 at home, Missouri State is 4-5 in true road matches this season. The Bears have won three of their last four matches.
 
Picked eighth in the MVC Preseason Poll, Missouri State went 2-6 against the Valley last year and tied for sixth place in the final conference standings, barely missing the MVC Championship.
