Women's Tennis Hosts Murray State Saturday in Key MVC Matchup

Regular Season Home Finale Starts at 11 a.m. at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex

Murray State (11-5, 4-0 MVC) at Belmont (10-8, 3-2 MVC)
Saturday, April 13 | 11:00 a.m.
Beaman Family Tennis Complex | Nashville, Tenn.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Looking to get back to its winning ways, the Belmont University women's tennis team hosts Murray State late Saturday morning in a pivotal Missouri Valley Conference match. First serve of the Bruins' regular season home finale is slated for 11 a.m. from the Beaman Family Tennis Complex.

The Racers (11-5, 4-0 MVC) visit the Music City as the conference leader, while Belmont (10-8, 3-2 MVC) is currently tied for fourth place in the Valley race.

The Bruins saw their three-match win streak snapped last Sunday at the University of Illinois Chicago after putting together three consecutive 5-2 MVC victories.

Owning a 6-2 home record, Belmont has gone 3-2 at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex this spring.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian duo of sophomore Mariia Hlahola and junior Anastasiya Zholdakova were tabbed MVC Doubles Team of the Week for the fourth time this season. The tandem has won three-straight No. 1 doubles matches 6-3.

In singles action, both Hlahola and Zholdakova are undefeated in conference play at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Zholdakova has won seven consecutive singles matches, while Hlahola has earned five wins in a row.

Each of the last two years, the Bruins have defeated Murray State in 4-3 fashion. On April 12 last year, Belmont edged the Racers in Murray, Kentucky, thanks to graduate Meredith Roberts' clinching three-set triumph at No. 4 singles.

Undefeated in MVC action, Murray State picked up a 4-3 victory over Drake last Sunday at home. The Racers have also secured conference wins against Northern Iowa (7-0), Missouri State (5-2) and Illinois State (4-3). On the road this season, Murray State is 3-4 with only one MVC contest away from Murray thus far – at Northern Iowa.

The Racers' top singles player, freshman Valeria Chaikovskaia, is the reigning MVC Singles Player of the Week.

Up Next
The Bruins close out the regular season on the road next weekend in Iowa. Belmont faces Northern Iowa next Saturday, April 20 in Cedar Falls before taking on Drake on Sunday, April 21 in Des Moines.
