Baseball Slugs Their Way Past North Alabama

Jack Rando Shines, Mason Landers Extends Hit Streak to 20 Games as Six Bruins Record Multi-Hit Games

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (20-17) and North Alabama (13-21) met for the second time this season on Tuesday evening. Jack Rando, Brodey Heaton, Mason Landers and other key bats led Belmont to the win column. The Bruins' 18 hits and 10 extra-base hits bested the Lions, 15-9.

  • Jack Rando had the best game of his career. The senior went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, a two-run home run, four runs, and five RBI. He fell a single shy of the first cycle in program history. Rando doubled in the fourth, homered in the sixth, tripled in the seventh and doubled again in the eighth.
  • Brodey Heaton recorded his second four-hit game of the season. Heaton hit a single, two doubles, and a two-run home run. He ended the night with four RBI.
  • Sam Slaughter went 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.
  • Mason Landers' two-hit night extends his hit streak to 20 games.
  • Blake Barton went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
  •  Michael Lareau had two hits and a home run.
  • Caleb Guisewite made his first career start and earned the win. Guisewite allowed three runs, two earned, across five innings with three strikeouts.
  • Ty Allen tossed a season-high three innings and fanned five Lions. His two earned runs were the first allowed this year.
The Bruins faced an early 1-0 deficit. An unearned run scored on an RBI single from Kyle Machado in the first inning. Belmont tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning. Blake Barton led off the inning with a single. Brodey Heaton doubled to left-center field and brought Barton home.
 
 
North Alabama retook the lead, 2-1, on a wild pitch in the third inning. Belmont scored three runs on two hits in the home half. Barton hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Sam Slaughter. Following a pitching change, Heaton launched a 402-foot two-run home run to left field. Belmont led 4-2 after the first three innings.
 
 
Belmont tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Jack Rando doubled and scored Landon Godsey and Slaughter. Rando scored on a wild pitch during Landers' at-bat. Belmont's lead grew, 7-2.
 
 
North Alabama added two runs in the sixth. A triple from Austin Knight scored a pair of Lions. Belmont responded with another three-spot in the bottom half. Rando hit a two-run home run to left-center field. Heaton hit his second double of the day that scored Landers. The Bruins led 10-5 after the sixth inning.
 
 
 
Reigning ASUN Player of the Week Gehrig Frei hit a two-run home run shot in the top of the seventh inning. The Lions stranded a runner on base at the end of the top half. Belmont scored four runs on four hits in their at-bats. Rando hit a two-out RBI triple to right field that scored Michael Lareau. North Alabama intentionally walked Landers to put runners on first and second. Barton scored Rando on a single to center field. A costly dropped pop-up by Bryant Loving led to two more runs scoring in the inning. Belmont led 14-7 and left two runners on base in the seventh.
 
 
 
Andin Johnson led off the eighth with a solo home run to left-center field. Lareau answered with a solo shot of his own in the home half. Belmont remained in front by seven runs, 15-8.
 
 
North Alabama scored one final time in the ninth inning on a Johnson RBI single. The Bruins won the game 15-9 for their 20th win of the season.
