Baseball Falls in Extra Innings to Southern Indiana

Bruins Drop 11-Inning Contest to Screaming Eagles

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - - Belmont (20-21) traveled to Southern Indiana (17-24) Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference game. The Bruins made a comeback in the final three innings but lost in 11 innings, 4-3.

  • Sam Slaughter hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
  • Landon Godsey drove in the tying run on an RBI single in the eighth. He also stole a base.
  • Kaden Galason scored the tying run and stole a base.
  • Ty Allen pitched four innings in relief. He struck out two batters.
  • Jordan Zuger tossed two scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Bill Duby pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
  • Hank Liss threw two innings, allowed one run, and struck out two Screaming Eagles.
Southern Indiana capitalized on free passes issued by starter Caleb Guisewite in the first inning. Guisewite hit the first batter he faced and walked three batters after. Ty Allen relieved Guisewite with the bases loaded and no outs. USI scored three runs on one hit in the inning.
 
Sam Slaughter brought in Belmont's first runs of the game in the seventh inning. Pete Daniel led off the inning with a double to center field on the first pitch. Slaughter hit a two-run home run with one out. Belmont left two runners on base to end the inning. USI led 3-2.
 
The Bruins scratched across the tying run in the eighth. Pinch hitter Max Jones drew a leadoff walk. Pinch runner Kaden Galason stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch during Landon Godsey's at-bat. Godsey drove Galason in on single to right field. The Bruins left the bases loaded to end the inning.
 
Bill Duby went 1-2-3 in the eighth with an inning-ending double play. Hank Liss allowed one base runner and struck out two batters in the next two innings.
 
USI won the game on a walk-off hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the eleventh inning.
