Top-Seeded Bruins Begin Horizon League Championship Title Defense Saturday Morning

Men's Tennis Faces Familiar League Foe Tennessee Tech in Horizon League Championship Semifinals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Belmont University men's tennis begins its quest for a fourth NCAA Championship appearance – and third in four years – Saturday morning in the 2024 Horizon League Men's Tennis Championship semifinals.

The two-time defending Horizon League regular season champion will face Tennessee Tech from Purdue University's Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Bruins (10-9, 5-0) defeated Tennessee Tech last Saturday to cap another undefeated conference campaign and extend the program's regular season conference match win streak to 19, dating back to 2021.

Alfred Wallin, Tomas Luis and Ian Cruz earned All-Horizon League honors this week, with Wallin being named Horizon League Player of the Year.

The trio comprise three of the most decorated players in program history, each producing career singles and doubles records and part of Belmont's NCAA Tournament tradition and conference success.

Luis' three-set victory secured the Bruins' 2023 Horizon League tournament championship.

Moreover, Belmont has received significant contributions from Gabriel Sardo, Niklas von Hellens and Ruben Busch this season.

The Bruins are quite familiar with the Golden Eagles dating back to their Ohio Valley Conference days, with either or both programs having a piece of the conference regular season or tournament championship every year from 2013 to 2022.

Cleveland State and Tennessee State are on the other half of the bracket.

First serve Saturday is set for 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET. Live scoring of both weekend matches will be available at BelmontBruins.com and Sunday's championship match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
