Brodey Heaton and Bruins Walk-Off Bradley

Tenth-Inning Solo Home Run Secures Series Victory

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (22-22, 9-9 MVC) and Bradley (11-29-1, 5-13 MVC) finished their weekend series at E.S. Rose Park. Brodey Heaton walked it off in the tenth inning with a solo home run to left field. The Bruins won the ten-inning thriller 6-5.

  • Brodey Heaton went 3-for-5 with two RBI and the walk-off home run. It was his 11th home run of the season.
  • Sam Slaughter had two hits and stole two bases.
  • Jack Rando doubled twice and had an RBI.
  • Mason Landers hit a two-run home run. He homered in each game of the series against Bradley, bringing his season total to 17.
  • Joe Ruzicka tossed seven-shutout innings and struck out a career-high nine batters. He allowed only four hits.
  • Blake Ciuffetelli picked up his second win of the season.
  • Sunday's game marked the first walk-off win for Belmont since May 26, 2022, against SIUE.
Joe Ruzicka started his day with four consecutive strikeouts and retired the first nine batters.
 
Belmont scored a trio of runs in the fourth inning. Jack Rando drove in Sam Slaughter on an RBI double. Mason Landers hit a two-run home run to left field in the next at-bat. The Bruins led 3-0.
 
Ruzicka kept dealing for the Bruins. He allowed only four hits in seven innings of work. He finished the day with a new career high of nine strikeouts.
   
Belmont added another run in the bottom of the seventh. Landon Godsey was hit to start the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pete Daniel smoked a ball up the middle to score Godsey. Belmont increased their lead to 4-0.
 
Bradley scored five runs on three hits in the top of the eight. The Braves took the lead on Michael Myle's three-run homer to left field.
 
Brodey Heaton came up clutch for the Bruins in the bottom half. Following Rando's second double, Heaton singled through the left side. Rando scored and tied the game at 5-5.
 
Both teams stranded runners on base in the ninth inning. Bradley had bases loaded in the tenth inning with one out. Blake Ciuffetelli got the final two batters to pop out to end the inning. Bradley left the bases loaded.
 
Belmont walked it off on Heaton's solo home run. His 11th home run of the season won the game, 6-5, and the series for Belmont.
 
The Bruins return to action on Friday, May 3, against #25 Indiana State in Terre Haute, Indiana. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
