Baseball Drops Midweek Contest to Austin Peay

Blake Barton Records Career-High Four Hits

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (17-16) hosted in-state foe Austin Peay (19-13) at E.S. Rose Park Tuesday afternoon. The Governors' three home runs and seven-run third inning proved too much for the Bruins, as Austin Peay won 13-5.
 
Bruin Bullets Austin Peay scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run home run from Lyle Miller-Green.
 
Belmont responded with a run in the second. Blake Barton drove in Sam Slaughter on a two-out RBI single to left field. After the first inning, the Governors led, 2-1.
 
 Austin Peay did most of their damage in the third inning. The Governors scored seven runs on six hits. The inning included a grand slam from John Bay.
 
Belmont answered again in the third inning. Mason Landers hit a one-out double to right-center field. Brodey Heaton drove him in on an RBI single to the left side. After the third inning, Austin Peay's lead grew to 9-2.
 
 Miller-Green led off the fourth with a solo home run. Belmont scored a pair of runs in the home half. Following a Michael Lareau double, Landon Godsey singled to left to bring Lareau in. Barton delivered again for the Bruins, with a two-out RBI single to the right side. Belmont cut the deficit to 10-4.
 
 The Governors scored three runs on one hit in the sixth inning. Bill Duby came into a bases-loaded situation with one out. Following a single, Duby got the final two outs of the inning. Austin Peay led 13-4 heading into the bottom of the inning.
 
Belmont's final run scored in the seventh inning. Pete Daniel drove in Jeff Clarke on a single to left field.
 
The seven-spot from the Governors in the third inning was too much for the Bruins to overcome. Belmont fell to Austin Peay at home, 13-5.
