NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Enhancing its 2024-25 roster, the Belmont University women's basketball program and head coach
Bart Brooks announced the addition of graduate transfers Jacee Busick and Kendall Holmes Friday morning. Both will have one year of eligibility in the Music City and will arrive with established NCAA Division I basketball careers.
Â
The pair brings 150 combined game starts to the Bruins.
Â
A 6-foot-1 guard, Busick spent the previous four seasons at UNC Charlotte, while 5-foot-10 guard Holmes spent the past year at South Dakota and her first three seasons at DePaul.
Â
"Jacee is a great teammate who will bring great versatility to our lineup," commented coach Brooks. "She has the ability to score from all spots on the floor and is a great competitor who finds ways to impact winning on both sides of the ball."
Â
"Kendall is a great scorer who has the ability to play multiple perimeter positions," remarked coach Brooks. "She will be a great addition to our team as both a player and teammate and brings great competitiveness to her game."
Â
"Both Kendall and Jacee will be great representatives of our program," added coach Brooks. "Belmont fans will love getting to know them this season."
Â
Over the last four seasons, Busick started 86 of the 49ers' 116 games averaging 28.8 minutes per outing. The Kernersville, North Carolina (Glenn HS), native started each of her last 62 games at Charlotte and is 364 points from reaching 1,000 for her career. A Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection, Busick led the league with a trio of Conference USA Freshman of the Week awards in 2020-21. An 83 percent free-throw shooter, Busick has tallied over 550 rebounds.
Â
This past season, Busick led the 49ers in rebounding (5.3 RPG) and averaged 5.6 rebounds per contest as a junior. She shot over 35 percent from beyond the arc her senior year after helping Charlotte to both a regular season and conference tournament championship as a sophomore in 2021-22. Busick played 14 minutes in the 49ers' 2022 NCAA Tournament First Round game versus 11th-ranked Indiana where she pulled down four boards.
Â
In a win over Gardner-Webb last November, Busick scored 14 points in 13 minutes by going 4-for-4 from outside. In a late-February win over Wichita State, Busick notched a career-high 17 points on 4-for-8 shooting from deep and secured 10 rebounds.
Â
Starting in all 33 games as a junior at DePaul, Holmes started all 31 games she played in at South Dakota this past season where she averaged 28 minutes on the floor. A native of Plainfield, Illinois (Benet Academy), Holmes is just 254 points from 1,000 for her career and has scored over 300 points in each of her last two seasons. Shooting at an 82 percent clip at the free-throw line for her career, Holmes has knocked down 65 three-pointers each of the last two seasons while connecting on over 36 percent of her attempts.
Â
Earning Summit League All-Newcomer Team honors this past year, Holmes was second among all Coyotes in scoring (11.4 PPG) and reached double figures 17 times. Surpassing 20 points on three occasions, Holmes totaled 22 points and five assists in a late-January win over Denver and had 21 points in games against Oral Roberts and Omaha.
Â
In 2022-23 at DePaul, Holmes nearly averaged double figures (9.5 PPG) and shot over 40 percent from the field, including 38 percent from distance. Averaging 36.2 minutes per game, Holmes scored in double figures 13 times. She had a trio of 20-point affairs, including a notable performance versus eventual Sweet 16 contender Villanova in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament quarterfinals where she registered 20 points on 5-for-9 shooting from long range. In a neutral-site win over Pittsburgh, Holmes went 5-for-6 from three-point range for 21 points and also scored 21 points in a February win over Xavier.
Â
Averaging the third-most assists on the team her junior year (2.1 APG), Holmes distributed a career-high seven assists in a December win at Northwestern. As a true freshman in 2020-21, Holmes earned a career-high 23 points on 6-for-8 three-point shooting in a late-November win over Chicago State.
Â
Busick and Holmes join incoming freshmen Hilary Fuller (Brisbane, Australia), Sanaa Tripp (Covington, Georgia) and Quinn Eubank (Union, Kentucky) as Belmont's newcomers.
Â
The Bruins will take to the hardwood in June for summer workouts.
