Men's Tennis Claims Six Singles Wins Saturday at Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On the second day of the fall-opening Louisville Invitational, the Belmont University men's tennis team went 6-4 in singles play highlighted by freshman Charlie Robin's pair of straight-set wins to advance to the Flight C final. Juniors Sabi Roi and Esunge Ndumbe, graduate Niklas von Hellens and freshman Morgan Woodson also picked up singles victories Saturday.
 
Robin defeated Louisville's Russell Lokko 6-3, 6-4 in the Flight C quarterfinals before getting past Bellarmine's Eli Wood 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the semifinals. The Huntsville, Alabama (Saddlebrook Academy), native will take on Notre Dame's Luis Llorens Saracho in the Flight C final Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT/10 a.m. ET.
 
"Charlie played very well today," commented head coach Jeff Cero. "He was excellent on big points throughout both matches and handled pressure and adversity very well. I'm excited for his final tomorrow."
 
Von Hellens also reached the Flight C quarterfinals as he cruised past Brent Reynolds of Bellarmine, 6-2, 6-1, before falling to the Fighting Irish's Llorens Saracho in the semifinals.
 
Roi had the lone three-set match of the day, nearly pulling out a win against Eastern Kentucky's Fernando Bulnes Garrorena in the back draw of Flight A. He then scored a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against the Colonels' Darko Kolevski.
 
"Overall, I think today was more of the same as yesterday in terms of seeing areas of development and growth, especially in regards to maintaining a high level of play throughout the course of matches," continued coach Cero. "We're looking forward to finishing on a high note tomorrow morning."
