SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (5-5, 0-0 MVC) opened the Jackrabbit Invitational against Toledo (7-3, 0-0 MAC) where the Bruins fell in three sets.
How it Happened
Belmont jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead off a kill from
Brooke Gilleland. Both teams traded big swings and with a kill from
Alivia Keegan, the Bruins and Rockets remained knotted at 12-12. Toledo later put together a 5-0 run to take control. The Rockets would go on to take the first 15-25.
Toledo took control of the second set from the start. Belmont was able to string together a late 4-0 run to bring it within two at 19-21. Despite the late comeback attempt, the Rockets claimed set two 22-25.
The Bruins started off strong in the third.
Bella Mathis and Keegan teamed up for a block to extend Belmont's lead to 8-4. Toledo then rattled off five-straight points to even the score at 10 all. The Rockets continued to put together runs and eventually took set three and the match 19-25.
