Women's Tennis Earns Doubles, Singles Win Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the second day of the fall-opening Belmont/Lipscomb Invitational, the Belmont University women's tennis team got a doubles and a singles victory as rain disrupted play at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex in the Music City.
 
The doubles tandem of senior Anastasiya Zholdakova and junior Libbie Hamilton topped Arkansas State's Sarah Millard and Carla Muro Castellvi 6-3 to begin the day, before rain moved into the Nashville area. Senior Aly Getty and sophomore Hana Sokolovic led the Red Wolves' Loles Carbo Chova and Abigal Thurmer 4-3 when their match was halted due to the rain.
 
In singles action, Sokolovic highlighted the day with a three-set win over Vanderbilt's Naomi Katz. Despite dropping the opening set, 6-1, Sokolovic rebounded and took the second set, 6-3, before prevailing 10-5 in the third-set super tiebreaker.
 
Hamilton also played a three-set match against Arkansas State's Thurmer.
 
Both Hamilton and Getty were supposed to play a second round of singles Saturday, but their matches were postponed to Sunday due to the weather.
 
Sunday's schedule features two singles matches for both Hamilton and Getty, and a round of singles for Zholdakova. Play will get underway at 9 a.m.
