Charlie Robin and Will Ecklund Advance in Doubles Main Draw at ITA Regional Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Following the first two days of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships at Purdue University's Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana, the Belmont University men's tennis team has two doubles teams in the round of 32. The tandem of sophomore Charlie Robin and graduate Will Ecklund won their round of 64 match Friday morning to advance to Saturday morning's round of 32.
 
The duo of senior Sabi Roi and junior Stefan Vedovelli, who are the No. 4 seed in the doubles draw, received a first-round bye Friday.
 
Robin and Ecklund dispatched the Boilermakers' Juan David Velasquez and Mujtaba Ali-Khan in a narrow tiebreaker, 7-5, to reach the second round.
 
Roi, who received an automatic berth in the singles main draw, took the opening set off of Indiana's sixth-seeded Facundo Yunis in Friday afternoon's round of 64 but ultimately fell 6-4 in the third set.
 
On Thursday, freshman Austin Yack nearly made it out of qualifying. He took out qualifying No. 16 seed Sam Scherer of Indiana in a 10-5 third-set super tiebreaker in the opening round before being edged 10-6 in a third-set super tiebreak by the University of Louisville's Louis Chusseau.
 
Both Roi and Vedovelli and Robin and Ecklund's round of 32 doubles matches will see an 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET first serve Saturday morning. Roi and Robin will face Purdue's Stefan Simeunovic and Nour Fathalla in the second round and Robin and Ecklund will take on 11th-seeded Rahulniket Konakanchi and Nicolas Arts of Butler.
