Bruins Sweep Horizon League Men’s Tennis Individual Championships

Senior Sabi Roi and Junior Stefan Vedovelli Punch Tickets to California for ITA Conference Masters

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Dropping only five combined games on championship Sunday, the Belmont University men's tennis duo of senior Sabi Roi and junior Stefan Vedovelli captured the 2025 Horizon League Individual Championships doubles title at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex in Nashville. With the championship, the tandem secures a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Conference Masters Championships, held Nov. 6-9 in San Diego.

"I'm very proud of Sabi and Stefan for not only their efforts this weekend, but the work they've been putting into this program over the past year really," spoke head coach Jeff Cero. "This weekend's results embodied the hard work they've put in, and we're excited to see them continue to grow."

In an all-Bruins final Sunday at noon following strenuous three-match wins by both players Saturday, Roi earned the Horizon League singles title by retirement over Vedovelli. With the individual league championship, Roi will also represent the Horizon League in singles at the ITA Conference Masters in California in early November.

Roi and Vedovelli made quick work of Youngstown State's Alexis Maulouet and Rafael Le Fur in the semifinals Sunday morning, winning 8-2. In the doubles final, Roi and Vedovelli handled Cleveland State's Lincoln Battle and Carl Gedlitschka, 8-3.

"Overall, the team did fairly well," commented coach Cero. "The guys showed a lot of hunger and passion, which will be needed not just for matches like these, but for training, growing and developing throughout this entire year. We're excited to get back to work after a little rest!"

Sunday's singles and doubles titles only add to Belmont's recent dominance in the Horizon League as the Bruins won the 2025 Horizon League Championship this past April to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championship for the second time in three years. Fittingly, Roi clinched the title match versus Cleveland State at No. 3 singles, while Vedovelli picked up a crucial point with a win at No. 5 singles.
