Six Bruins Earn Academic Honors from the MVC and College Sports Communicators

Clothier, Dildy, Hough, Mark, Schlegel and Wolthers Awarded for Their Dedication in the Classroom and on the Field

ST. LOUIS – Six Belmont University men's soccer players have been recognized for their commitment and hard work in the classroom and on the pitch with last Tuesday's announcement of the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team. Additionally, five of the six Bruins have also been honored by College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), with the 2025 Academic All-District® Team announced this Tuesday.

Senior defender Riley Clothier, senior midfielders Brad Dildy and Oscar Hough, redshirt senior forward Jimiyu Mark, redshirt junior midfielder Ethan Schlegel, and redshirt sophomore forward Lucas Wolthers were all named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. Clothier, Dildy, Mark, Schlegel and Wolthers were also selected as CSC Academic All-District® honorees.

Belmont and Western Michigan are the only two programs to have six student-athletes represented on the 2025 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. Additionally, the Bruins and the Broncos are the only two teams from the Valley to have five or more players chosen for 2025 CSC Academic All-District® distinction.

An All-MVC Second Team performer, Clothier owns a 3.55 cumulative grade point average while majoring in supply chain management.

Dildy repeats as both an MVC Scholar-Athlete honoree and CSC Academic All-District® choice. The San Antonio, Texas (Smithson Valley HS), native joined redshirt senior defender Dylan Steely this fall as Belmont's first All-MVC First Team selections. Majoring in finance, Dildy holds a 3.86 cumulative GPA and also earned a spot on the 2025 MVC All-Tournament Team.

A CSC Academic All-District® pick last year, Hough finishes his collegiate career as the Bruins and MVC's highest-rated midfielder. He has maintained an impressive 3.96 GPA as an economics major.

Like Dildy and Hough, Mark was a CSC Academic All-District® member last fall. Majoring in sport administration, Mark boasts a 3.54 cumulative GPA.

Earning nine starts this fall after serving in a reserve capacity, Schlegel has a 3.8 cumulative GPA while majoring in business systems and analytics.

Arriving in the Music City in January, Wolthers played a key role in Belmont's system this season. He has been equally as good in his studies with a 3.92 cumulative GPA as a biophysics major.

Advancing to the national ballot, Dildy is a CSC Academic All-America® finalist. CSC members will vote for first, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees, which will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

To be eligible for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, men's soccer student-athletes must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, both as an undergraduate and graduate student. Additionally, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing. Eligible nominees must compete in 75 percent of their team's matches played during the regular season or must start in at least 50 percent of the team's regular season matches.

The 2025 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's soccer honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and the NAIA.

Eligibility criteria for CSC Academic All-District® and subsequent Academic All-America® consideration is as follows:
  • A student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA as both an undergraduate and graduate student (when applicable).
  • A student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
    • Transfer student-athletes are immediately eligible if the above academic and athletic criteria is met.
