NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University baseball (1-8) and Notre Dame (6-1) kicked off their weekend series Friday night at E.S. Rose Park. The Fighting Irish scored nine runs in the first four innings and won the series opener 12-8.
Scoring Action
- Notre Dame's Carson Tinney hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
- Belmont's Blake Barton responded with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom half of the first inning. Barton's first home run of the season tied the game 2-2.
- The Fighting Irish added three runs in the second inning on a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly to retake the lead 5-2.
- Charlie Davis drove in Pete Daniel on a ground rule double to left center field.
- Notre Dame hung a six spot on the board in the fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Connor Hincks. The Fighting Irish's lead grew to 11-3.
- Wyatt Fooks hit his first career home run in the fourth inning. The two-run homer made it an 11-5 Belmont deficit.
- Michael Lareau smacked an RBI double to the left field gap to score Barton in the sixth inning.
- Mike Sprockett hit a two-run home run to left field in the eighth inning. Sprockett's second home run of the season brought the Bruins within three, down 11-8.
- Notre Dame added an insurance run in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly from Bino Watters.
