NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University baseball (1-9) and Notre Dame (7-1) continued their weekend series Saturday at E.S. Rose Park. Unlike Friday's game, the Bruins and Fighting Irish were locked into a pitchers' duel that saw 17 combined strikeouts and only three runs. Notre Dame prevailed in the low-scoring affair, 2-1 over the Bruins.
Scoring Action
- Blake Barton hit a one-out triple in the second inning. Wyatt Fooks brough Barton home the next at-bat on a sacrifice fly to right field.
- Notre Dame tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning. The Fighting Irish were walked three times and a run scored on a walk drawn by Bino Watters.
- Davis Johnson's solo shot to lead off the seventh inning – his first career home run – gave Notre Dame a 2-1 lead.
Bruin Bullets
- Ty Allen, Blake Barton and Michael Lareau recorded hits for the Bruins.
- Barton hit his first triple of the season in the second inning.
- Joe Ruzicka threw six innings in his third start of the season. Ruzicka allowed one run on three hits and struck out four batters. He also walked four batters.
- Andrew Perry was knocked with the loss. The freshman allowed one run on two hits in three innings of relief work. Perry struck out three batters.
