Baseball Sweeps Friday Doubleheader Against Butler

Bruins Score 32 Runs in Two Run-Rule Victories

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont (6-13) and Butler (6-11) began their weekend series Friday with a doubleheader at E.S. Rose Park. The Bruins scored 32 combined runs to win both games in seven innings: 12-2 in game one and 20-10 in game two.
 
Game One Scoring Action
  • Charlie Davis started the Belmont scoring with an RBI triple in the first inning. Ty Allen followed with an RBI single to score Davis. Belmont led 2-0 after the first inning.
  • Butler scored a run in the second inning on an RBI single from Danny Barbero.
  • Mike Sprockett hit a solo home run in the second inning. Davis brought home two runs on a single up the middle. The Bruins led 3-1 after the second inning.
  • Sprockett hit a second solo home run in the third inning to extend Belmont's lead to 6-1.
  • Davis hit a two-run home run to left-center field in the fourth inning. The Bruins led 8-1.
  • Allen hit a solo home run to left field. Belmont's lead grew to 9-1.
  • Wyatt Fooks brought home Landon Godsey on an RBI single in the fifth inning. Belmont led 10-1 after five innings.
  • Butler made it 10-2 after a solo home run from Jack Bello in the sixth inning.
  • In the seventh inning, Daniel scored Nolan Sergeant on an RBI single to left-center field. The Bruins walked it after a balk was called on Alex Thomas. The Bruins won game one 12-2 in seven innings. 
Game Two Scoring Action
  • Blake Barton brought home the first run of the game in the first inning. His RBI double scored Allen.
  • Mike Sprockett hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Belmont led 4-0.
  • Ryan Burgess hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Butler trailed 4-2 going into the home half.
  • Charlie Davis hit an RBI triple and scored on a mental mistake from Butler. Belmont's lead grew to 6-2.
  • Butler scored twice in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs scored a run on a bases-loaded walk, a fielder's choice. Belmont's lead was cut to 6-4.
  • The Bulldogs erupted at the plate in the sixth inning. Butler hit four home runs to take a 10-7 lead, their first lead of the day.
  • Belmont responded with eight runs on six hits in the sixth inning. Ty Allen hit a three-run home run. Nolan Sergeant hit an RBI single. Jack Maddox brought home two runs on a double. Two runs scored on a throwing error on a play at the plate. Davis brought another run in on a ground ball to the right side. The Bruins led 17-10 after the sixth inning.
  • In the seventh inning, Gardner Lawrence drove in two runs on a single up the middle. Daniel smashed an RBI triple. Allen brought home another run on a single through the left side. Barton walked it off with an RBI single down the right field line. Belmont won game two 20-10. 
Bruin Bullets
  • Ty Allen finished the day with a team-high six hits and two home runs. Allen and Charlie Davis both had seven RBIs.
  • Davis finished 5-for-9 with four extra-base hits, including a home run and scored six times.
  • Mike Sprockett hit three home runs and had five RBIs.
  • Pete Daniel scored five times and had four hits.
  • Blake Barton and Jake Maddox hit two doubles.
  • Will Pryor and Andrew Perry picked up wins on the mound. Pryor threw six innings in game one, allowed two runs on five hits, and struck out five batters. Perry threw 2.1 innings of relief in game two. He struck out three batters.
Belmont and Butler complete their weekend series with a Sunday doubleheader. The first seven-inning game is set for a noon start time.
