Baseball Stumped by No. 22 Vanderbilt

Bruins Suffer 13-2 Loss at Hawkins Field

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a weekend sweep at home, Belmont (8-14) faced No. 22 Vanderbilt (16-5) – their first-ranked opponent of the season – at Hawkins Field Tuesday night. The Commodores silenced the Bruins' bats and never looked back after an eight-run third inning. Belmont fell to Vanderbilt, 13-2 in seven-innings.
 
Scoring Action
  • RJ Austin brought home the first run on a ground ball in the second inning.
  • Mac Rose hit an RBI double down the right-field line. Vanderbilt led 2-0 after two innings.
  • Vanderbilt scored eight runs on three hits and two Belmont errors in the third inning. The Commodores' lead grew to 10-0.
  • Rose drive in another run on a single on the fourth inning.
  • Blake Barton led off the fifth inning with a single – off his younger brother  - for Belmont's first hit of the game. The Bruins scored on a bases-loaded walk, and trailed 11-1.
  • Jacob Humphrey led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run. Vanderbilt led 12-1 moving into the sixth inning.
  • David Mendez hit a two-out solo home run in the sixth inning. Vanderbilt's lead grew to 13-2.
  • Landon Godsey hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Belmont went quietly after and fell 13-2.
Bruin Bullets
  • Blake Barton went 1-for-3 and scored Belmont's first run. He also reached base on a walk.
  • Landon Godsey hit his third home run of the season in the seventh inning.
  • Zane Brown struck out three batters in two innings.
  • Andrew Perry recorded one strikeout and surrendered a home run in the seventh inning.
  • Ethan Harden allowed one run and recorded two strikeouts in the eighth inning.
