NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont (9-16, 1-2 MVC) and Illinois State (8-13, 2-1 MVC) wrapped up the opening weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play Sunday morning. The Redbirds – fueled by a 10-run fourth inning – won the rubber match 14-2 in seven innings.

- Ty Allen put Belmont on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
- Brayden Bakes tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run.
- Illinois State scored ten runs on nine hits in the fourth inning. Daniel Pacella led off the inning with a solo home run and Bakes hit a three-run home run. The Redbirds pulled away with an 11-1 lead.
- Belmont responded in the fourth inning. Allen led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Blake Barton hit a ground ball to the right side that scored Allen and made it 11-2 Belmont deficit.
- The Redbirds scored a run on a two-out throwing error by Belmont in the fifth inning. Illinois State led 12-2.
- Bakes hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. His third home run of the game extended Illinois State's lead, 14-2.
