SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Belmont (9-18, 1-3 MVC) and Missouri State (12-12, 4-0 MVC) kicked off their weekend series at Hammons Field Friday night. The Bears jumped out to an early lead and ran away with the game. Missouri State defeated Belmont 16-3 in seven innings.

Scoring Action
- Missouri State capitalized on walks and free passes in the first inning. The Bears scored five runs on two hits in the inning.
- Belmont got on the board in the third inning. Pete Daniel led off with a double to left center. Landon Godsey brought Barton home on a two-out single to center field. The Bruins trailed 5-1 moving into the bottom of the third.
- Missouri State scored four runs on three hits highlighted by doubles from Nick Rodriguez and Jake McCutcheon. The Bears extended their lead, 9-1.
- The Bears scored six runs in the fourth inning. The scoring frenzy was capped off with a three-run home run by Max Knight. Missouri State led 15-1 after four innings.
- Missouri State made it a 16-1 game after a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
- The Bruins scored two runs in the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Tucker Smith's first collegiate hit was a lead-off double down the left-field line. Charlie Davis singled to put runners on the corner with one out. Ty Allen drove a double off the center field wall and scored both runners. Belmont lost 16-3 in seven innings.
