Baseball Drops Series Finale to Missouri State

Bruins Suffer 8-3 Loss, Barton Leads Bruins at the Plate with Three RBIs

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Weekend action between Belmont (10-19, 2-4 MVC) and Missouri State (13-13, 5-1) concluded Sunday at Hammons Field. After Belmont's offense erupted in Saturday's 17-11 victory, the Bears tamed the opposition and secured the series with an 8-3 win in the series finale.
 
Scoring Action
  • Belmont scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Ty Allen led off with a single to center field and advanced on a ground ball the next at-bat. Blake Barton hit a two-out base knock to left field that scored Allen.
  • Missouri State capitalized on four walks to start the fourth inning. Following a hit batter, the Bears brought home runs five additional runs on three hits. The Bears carried a commanding 7-1 lead into the sixth inning.
  • Barton brought home a pair of runs for the Bruins in the sixth inning. Allen hit a lead-off double to right-center field. Godsey reached after being hit by a pitch; both Allen and Godsey stole bases and moved up to second and third. Barton smashed a single to the right-field gap. Belmont's deficit was cut to 7-3 moving to the home half of the sixth.
  • The Bears added one more in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 8-3. 
Bruin Bullets
  • Blake Barton had two hits and drove in all three Belmont runs.
  • Ty Allen had two hits including a double.
  • Pete Daniel had another mult-hit performance.
  • Trey Maeker struck out a season-high five batters.
  • Ethan Harden allowed one run on two hits in his 1.1 innings. He recorded three strikeouts.
