Baseball Comes Up Short Against Little Rock

Bruins Lose 6-3 in Series Finale

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Belmont (4-12) and Little Rock (6-9) wrapped up their weekend series at Gary Hogan Field Sunday afternoon. The Bruins – having clinched their first series win all-time against the Trojans – attempted to complete the weekend sweep. Little Rock contained the Belmont offense and held on to win 6-3, despite the Bruins making noise in the final three innings.
 
Scoring Action
  • Little Rock's Ryan Geck hit a two-out RBI single in the third inning.
  • The Trojans scored three runs on two hits in the fourth inning. Reed Willbanks hit a sacrifice fly and Cooper Chaplin drove in a pair on a double to right field.
  • Willbanks brought in two more runs on a single in the sixth inning. Little Rock led 6-0 entering the seventh inning.
  • The Bruins' offense awoke in the seventh inning. Pinch hitters Nolan Sergeant and Gardner Lawrence hit back-to-back singles. Kaden Galason drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Charlie Davis brought Sergeant home on a single up the middle. Blake Barton drew a bases loaded walk. Two batters later, Galason scored on a wild pitch. Belmont trailed 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh.
Bruin Bullets Series Notes
  • Charlie Davis was on fire over the weekend, posting a team-high .615 batting average, .667 on-base percentage, .769 slugging percentage and eight hits. Davis also stole two bases
  • Pete Daniel had six hits - .400 batting average – a team-high three doubles and stole two bases.
  • Four Bruins had two RBIs in the series: Davis, Kaden Galason, Blake Barton and Landon Godsey.
  • The Bruins swiped six bases against the Trojans.
  • Belmont pitchers struck out 25 batters and only walked nine in 26 innings.
  • Ethan Harden allowed one hit in two innings and notched two strikeouts. Harden picked up saves Friday and Saturday.
  • Owen Marsh threw 2.1 innings and made two appearances. Marsh allowed no runs and only one hit.
