Baseball, Davis Clutches Up for Walk-Off Victory Over UT Martin

Bruins Defeat Skyhawks 7-6; End Homestand 4-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont (14-20) rounded out their five-game homestand Tuesday night against UT Martin (12-20). The Bruins – fresh off a walk-off win against Indiana State in the rubber match – found a way to overcome a 6-3 deficit with a heroic finish from Charlie Davis. Belmont defeated UT Martin in walk-off fashion 7-6, to finish the homestand 4-1 and on a three-game win streak.

Scoring Action
  • After no scoring action in the first three innings, Belmont scored the first runs of the game in the fourth. Ty Allen led off with a single right field. Godsey – with Allen off for second base – hit a double that scored Allen. Jake Maddox brought in Godsey on an RBI single. Michael Lareau hit a sacrifice fly to cap off the Bruins' three-run inning on four hits.
  • UT Martin scored six runs in the sixth inning. Belmont issued six free passes in the inning. Blaze Bell had the biggest hit of the inning; a ground-rule double with the bases loaded. The Skyhawks took a 6-3 lead.
  • Belmont responded with two runs in the home half of the sixth. Kaden Galason was hit by a pitch with two outs. Lareau doubled to the left-field corner and scored Galason from first. Pete Daniel hit an RBI base knock the next at-bat. The Bruins cut the Skyhawk's lead to one, trailing 6-5.
  • The Bruins tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth. Lareau led off with an infield single and stole second soon after. Daniel hit a hard comebacker to the pitcher and set the table for Charlie Davis, with runners on first and third. Davis hit an infield chopper to the Bell at first base, who tried to throw Lareau out at home. Bell's throw took the catcher off the plate as Lareau slid home safely.
  • Kaden Galason – with one out – laid down a beautiful bunt down the third base line. Next at-bat, Lareau was hit by a pitch. Galason and Lareau pulled off a double steal and moved up to second and third. Daniel drew a walk to load the bases for Davis. The Belmont second baseman drove the payoff pitch deep enough into center field to score Galason. Belmont scored four unanswered runs and defeated UT Martin, 7-6.
