Bruins Unable to Slow Down Flames

CHICAGO – Belmont (24-31, 13-11 MVC) and UIC (19-31, 15-11 MVC) returned to action Friday afternoon at Curtis Granderson Stadium. The Flames jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and kept Belmont trailing, despite a valiant effort from the Bruins. A nine-run bottom of the sixth inning allowed UIC to secure the victory. The Flames won the game 21-10 and secured the series victory.
 
Scoring Action
  • UIC scored six runs in the first inning. The scoring started with a hit batter with the bases loaded. Three runs crossed on a fielding error by right fielder Ty Allen. An RBI triple and a sacrifice fly capped off the inning.
  • Jake Maddox put Belmont on the board in the top of the second inning. Michael Lareau scored on a ground ball to the right side.
  • UIC added two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Flames led 8-1 after two innings.
  • Belmont scored three runs in the third inning. Allen hit an RBI single through the left side. Blake Barton brought home two runs on a double to left-center field. Lareau hit a ground ball to the right side that scored Landon Godsey from third base. The Bruins cut their deficit, trailing 8-5.
  • UIC's Terrick Thompson-Allen hit a solo home run to left field in the third inning. He then hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning. UIC led 12-5 after the fifth inning.
  • In the fifth inning, Lareau recorded another RBI on a single to the second baseman. Kaden Galason drove in two runs on a single to center field.
  • UIC scored nine runs in the sixth inning. The Flames led 21-9 after the inning.
  • Lareau homered to left-center field in the seventh inning. UIC won the game 21-10 in seven innings.

Belmont and UIC wrap up the regular season tomorrow, May 16. First pitch from Curtis Granderson Stadium is set for 1 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+.
