Baseball Ends Regular Season at UIC

Bruins Fall in Series Finale, Prepare for MVC Championship

CHICAGO – Belmont (24-32, 13-14 MVC) and UIC (20-31, 16-11 MVC) wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon at Curtis Granderson Stadium. After Belmont took an early 6-0 lead, UIC scored 12 unanswered runs which was too much for the Bruins to mount a comeback. The Flames won the game 12-7 and swept the series.
 
Scoring Action
  • Belmont scored four runs in the first inning. The Bruins executed a double steal that led to a throwing error by the UIC catcher, allowing Pete Daniel to cross home.  Ty Allen followed with an RBI single. Blake Barton hit a two-run home run to right-center field.
  • The Bruins extended their lead on Landon Godsey's two-run home run in the second inning. Godsey's third home run of the series gave Belmont a 6-0 lead.
  • UIC hit a solo home run in the second inning.
  • The Flames scored four runs in the third inning on an RBI triple, an RBI single, a fielding error and a baserunning play. Belmont clung to a 6-5 lead after three innings.
  • UIC took an 8-6 lead in the fifth inning on a pair of home runs.
  • UIC extended their lead in the sixth inning. A bases-clearing error, an RBI single and a wild pitch made it a 12-6 UIC advantage.
  • Charlie Davis hit a solo home run in the ninth inning. UIC held on to win 12-7 and swept the series.
Bruin Bullets
  • Charlie Davis tied his career high with four hits and scored three times. Davis also hit a solo home run in the ninth inning. He finished the series with seven hits.
  • Landon Godsey hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season. He homered in every game against UIC and has hit four home runs in the last five games.
  • Blake Barton recorded two RBIs and a home run.
  • Michael Lareau had another multi-hit performance.
  • Cade Granzow pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.
  • Krish Gandhi faced four batters and surrendered no hits in the eighth inning.

Belmont finished the regular season with an overall record of 24-32 and 13-13 in MVC play. The Bruins earned the sixth seed in the 2025 MVC Baseball Championship, presented by Credit Union 1, at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Illinois.
