Women's Soccer Earns Road Point in Scoreless Draw

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Belmont women's soccer battled through 90 minutes of physical play and relentless pressure to earn a 0-0 draw against UAB on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.

The Bruins (2-1-3) leaned heavily on their defensive organization and the steady hands of Sophomore goalkeeper Greta Genie, who turned away six Blazer shots on goal to secure her first clean sheet of the year. Genie made key stops in both halves, including back-to-back saves in the 40th and 62nd minutes that kept the match level.

UAB (3-2-2) controlled much of the attacking flow, finishing with a 16-6 advantage in total shots and producing three corner kicks to Belmont's one. The Blazers nearly broke through twice in the closing minutes, striking the woodwork in both the 49th and 88th minutes, but the Bruins defense stayed composed and cleared the danger.

What's Bruin

  • Belmont's offense came alive in the second half after being held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes. Reagan Ross sparked the attack with a pair of efforts early in the period, while Anna Samuel, Olivia Walker, and Anay Garcia each forced UAB goalkeeper Leah Parsons into saves. Parsons finished with three stops to match Genie's effort in goal.
  • The match carried a physical tone throughout, as the two sides combined for 19 fouls. Samuel was booked with a yellow card in the 21st minute, but the Bruins kept their composure the rest of the way.
  • Head coach Kelsey Cameron's side continues to show resilience on the road, collecting its third draw of the season and holding an opponent scoreless for the second time in three matches.

Up Next
  • Belmont returns to action Thursday Sept. 11, against Samford with kickoff set to 6:30. Bruins looking to build momentum off another strong defensive performance.
