Bruins standout adds top national ranking to growing list of preseason accolades

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont softball's Maya Johnson continued to collect national preseason recognition this week, being named D1Softball's No. 1 Mid-Major Player on Monday morning before earning Preseason Second Team All-America honors from D1Softball on Wednesday morning.

Johnson's top overall mid-major ranking highlights her impact as one of the strongest pitchers in college softball entering the 2026 season. She was also recognized on D1Softball's preseason All-America list, further affirming her national standing following a standout 2025 campaign.

In addition to her D1Softball honors, Johnson has earned widespread preseason recognition across multiple national outlets. She was ranked No. 23 overall and No. 8 pitcher in D100 Softball's preseason player rankings, while Softball America named her a Preseason Second Team All-American, ranking her No. 32 overall and No. 9 pitcher nationally.

Johnson's presence in the circle and production at the plate have made her one of the most impactful players in the country. Her consistent appearance across multiple national rankings underscores her status as a premier mid-major talent.

Johnson's preseason accolades build upon an exceptional 2025 season, where she earned Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-MVC honors, and was named the MVC Tournament Most Valuable Player, leading Belmont to a conference tournament title.
