NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University softball All-American
Maya Johnson will serve as a national social media correspondent for Softball America during the 2026 season.
Â
Softball America – a subsidiary of parent company On3 Media – provides industry-leading coverage of college softball.
Â
The partnership, which will include collaboration on multi-platform posts, encompasses day in the life testimonials, interviews with current and former Johnson teammates, and exclusive inside access to the Belmont Softball program.
"I am so excited and grateful to partner with Softball America during my final collegiate season," Johnson said. "Being able to open our doors to Softball America's audience and provide a behind-the-scenes look at how we operate as Belmont student-athletes is truly a unique opportunity. I cannot wait to get started!"
Â
"Maya is one of the most impactful players in college softball right now, not only because of her dominance in the circle but because of the incredible story she carries with her," said Tara Henry, Softball America general manager. "We are honored to partner with her as she shares her journey, her voice, and the experience of being a Belmont student-athlete with our audience."
Â
Johnson is one of the most remarkable stories in college athletics. Diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called lupus during high school, Johnson has battled and worked to become one of the nation's top pitchers.
Â
Last season, the Columbia Station, Ohio native led the NCAA in seven statistical categories – including strikeouts (366), strikeout-to-walk ratio (16.64), shutouts (11), and WHIP (0.65).
Â
Johnson helped Belmont to a program-record 41 victories, a Missouri Valley Conference championship, and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bruins would also earn their first NCAA Tournament victory in the Tuscaloosa regional.
Â
Johnson was named All-American by Softball America, NFCA, and D1Softball – becoming the first Belmont student-athlete of the NCAA Division I era named First Team All-American in any sport.
Â
In addition, Johnson was named MVC Pitcher of the Year, MVC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.
Â
Johnson earned her bachelor's degree in nursing with honors in May. She is pursuing her doctorate of nursing practice degree at Belmont.
