Belmont Volleyball Sweeps Indiana State, Extends Winning Streak to 15 Sets

Bruins open home Missouri Valley Conference play with three-set victory over Sycamores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University volleyball team (6-8, 3-0 MVC) remained undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play Friday night, sweeping Indiana State, 3-0, inside the Curb Event Center. The victory marked Belmont's first home conference win of the season and extended the Bruins' winning streak to three matches and 15 consecutive sets.

Belmont vs. Indiana State (W, 3-0)

Belmont and Indiana State battled through a 6-6 tie early in the opening set before a slide kill from Lucy Kay helped the Bruins begin to create separation. An overpass kill from Alivia Keegan pushed Belmont's lead to five, while continued pressure and Indiana State errors allowed the Bruins to extend their advantage. Sydnee Nelson put away another overpass to make Belmont the first team to 20, and a Warmenhoven kill pushed the lead to eight. Belmont continued taking advantage of opportunities at the net before Brenna Kauffeld closed the set with a big two-ball kill, 25-17.

The Bruins carried their momentum into the second set, opening with a 6-0 run highlighted by a solo block from Erin McMullen. McMullen continued to make an impact offensively, delivering a big swing to give Belmont an 8-1 advantage. Strong serve receive from Mya Bolton helped set up another Kauffeld kill as Belmont reached 10 first. Kay added a kill and block as the Bruins extended their lead to 15-6. Nelson's ace and another McMullen swing helped Belmont reach match point, while McMullen's block sealed the 25-14 set victory.

Belmont continued to control the third set, receiving strong defensive touches while Kay and Kauffeld helped maintain the offensive pressure. Indiana State rallied to tie the set at 14-14, but Kay immediately answered with a slide kill and followed with a block to put the Bruins back ahead, 16-15. Nelson then sparked a late serving run before Kay delivered the final slide kill to close out the sweep, 25-20.
