LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Belmont University men's tennis team put together a strong singles performance Saturday on the second day of the Louisville Invitational and Vanderbilt's Black and Gold Invitational. The Bruins collected five combined singles victories in six matches, while also claiming a Flight A doubles victory in Louisville, Kentucky.
Junior
Charlie Robin and freshman Jesús Garcia Salgado defeated Bellarmine's Ryan Parkins and Colby Berson in both singles and doubles at the University of Louisville, while junior
Kostiantyn Mantach earned a hard-fought singles win against Indiana's Karan Raghavendra.
Mantach prevailed 7-5 in the third set versus Raghavendra to remain unbeaten in singles at the Louisville Invitational.
"Kostya (
Kostiantyn Mantach) played some very gritty singles today and I'm glad he was able to pull it out against a very solid opponent," spoke head coach
Jeff Cero. "Charlie (Robin) and Jesús (Garcia Salgado) were very strong from beginning to finish in both doubles and singles."
"Our best doubles in particular is still far ahead of us," continued coach Cero. "I'm hoping we can finish this weekend strong tomorrow morning."
In Nashville, juniors
Morgan Woodson and
Esteban Ortiz nearly went unbeaten on the day but were narrowly defeated in a tiebreaker in doubles. However, both won their singles matches.
Woodson topped North Alabama's Samuel Balfour Dominguez in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, while Ortiz took care of Vanderbilt's Leonardo Ljubicic 6-2, 7-6.

The Bruins will take on players from Butler and Tennessee in Louisville Sunday.
