LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Winning both of its mini-duals against the University of Tennessee and Butler University Sunday, the Belmont University men's tennis team finished out the Louisville Invitational with confidence-boosting play. Junior
Charlie Robin and freshman Jesús Garcia Salgado took on Butler's Ricardo Baldi and Nicholas Shirley, while junior
Kostiantyn Mantach and freshman
Judah McEachern-Brown faced Tennessee's Adrien Abarca and Woodson McMillin.
"A lot of positives on a physical final day in Louisville," commented head coach
Jeff Cero. "Final days of fall events like these are a test of mental fortitude and stamina. Kostya (
Kostiantyn Mantach) and Judah (McEachern-Brown) did great to rebound after a slow doubles match to win in singles. They both showed great toughness to hang in there and pull it out. Jesús (Garcia Salgado) continued to show great poise and played a complete match in what could've been a tricky outing."
"Now it's time to recover and prepare for a big week at ITA Regionals down the street," concluded coach Cero.
Both Mantach and McEachern-Brown pulled out gutsy three-set triumphs versus the Volunteers in singles. Despite both dropping their opening sets, Mantach and McEachern outlasted Abarca and McMillin, respectively. Mantach won his second and third sets convincingly, 6-3, 6-0, as McEachern-Brown grinded out consecutive 7-5 set victories.
