Bruins Capture Four Individual Titles at the Redbird Invitational Sunday

NORMAL, Ill. – On the final day of Illinois State's Redbird Invitational in Normal, Illinois, the Belmont University women's tennis team won four individual titles with three singles crowns and a doubles championship. Junior Savannah Webster, graduate Isabel Pacheco and sophomore Ketevan Jeladze all took home singles titles, while the tandem of sophomore Mia Jones and Pacheco won the third doubles flight.
 
Jones and Pacheco were dominant in an 8-2 win over the University of Illinois Chicago's Charlotte Deletioglu and Marta Halbersztadt in the No. 3 doubles final.
 
Against Murray State's Varvara Alexeyeva for the second singles flight, Webster prevailed in three sets. After winning the opening set, 6-4, Webster bounced back from a 6-4 second-set loss with a commanding 6-1 third-set triumph.
 
In the fifth singles flight final, Pacheco led UIC's Kristina Tai 6-2, 2-1 before Tai was forced to retire due to injury.
 
Like Webster, Jeladze also prevailed in three sets in the sixth singles flight final. Taking on the Flames' Deletioglu, Jeladze won the first set, 6-0, before bouncing back from a 6-3 set two loss with a 6-2 set three win.
 
The Bruins also earned a pair of third place victories as the duo of Webster and sophomore Emmi Kolyszko topped Valparaiso's Lacey Tanner and Alexandra Popa 8-2 in the top doubles flight. For third place in the sixth singles flight, senior Emma Grant outlasted the Beacons' Cathy Beckmann 10-3 in a third-set super tiebreaker.
 
Junior Jessica Popiol also secured a singles win Sunday, defeating Bradley's En-Chia "Ann" Hsieh 6-4, 7-5 in a third singles flight consolation match.
