ST. LOUIS – After helping lead the Belmont University women's tennis team to its first victory of the season, graduate
Cielo Tapia-Cruz and freshman
Mia Jones have been named Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week. The duo earned its first win at the top of the doubles lineup Friday afternoon at the Hadley Park Tennis Center.

Tapia-Cruz and Jones defeated Tennessee State's Victoria Cooksey and Claudia Murdasanu 6-3 at the No. 1 position to clinch the all-important doubles point. With Tapia-Cruz and Jones' triumph, the Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the match before defeating their crosstown adversary 6-1 for their first win of the year.

With their No. 1 doubles victory over the host Tigers, Tapia-Cruz and Jones improved to a team-leading 3-3 in dual matches. Including fall tournaments, the tandem is 7-6 in 2025-26.
