INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time this season, Belmont University men's tennis'
Sabi Roi and
Stefan Vedovelli have been selected as Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week. The Bruins' top pair once again went 2-0 last week in helping Belmont to back-to-back thrilling 4-3 victories in the Music City.
Â
Announced by the league office midday Wednesday, the tandem collects its third career Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week honor. Roi and Vedovelli were also named Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week two weeks ago on March 4.
Â
Last Thursday at nearby rival Lipscomb, senior Roi and junior Vedovelli blanked the Bisons' Alex Vlahos and Oskar Szymczak 6-0 as the Bruins went on to prevail in a deciding singles match at the No. 6 position (
Bautista Durrels Rojo). Then on Friday, Roi and Vedovelli helped Belmont clinch the doubles point at home versus the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a 6-4 triumph over Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa.
Â
With the two wins, Roi, a native of Lyon, France, and Vedovelli, a native of Mezzolombardo, Italy, improved to 8-5 at No. 1 doubles this spring season. The duo is 15-9 on the year, including fall tournament play, and has won four of its last five matches.
Â
The Bruins (6-7) have won four in a row and begin Horizon League play this Saturday afternoon at crosstown conference opponent Tennessee State. First serve from the Hadley Park Tennis Center in Nashville is set for 2 p.m.
