INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time this season, Belmont University men's tennis standout
Sabi Roi has been named Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. After going 2-0 at the top of the singles lineup last weekend on the road, Roi secures his third career Horizon League Singles Player of the Week accolade.
Â
Announced by the league office midday Wednesday, Roi earns his fourth Horizon League weekly honor of the season after collecting Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week recognition twice in March with partner
Stefan Vedovelli.
Â
The Lyon, France, native won both of his matches in straight sets, dismissing Tennessee Tech's Oliver Dao 6-4, 7-5 last Friday in Cookeville, Tennessee, before handling Southern Indiana's Axel Sabourin 6-1, 7-6 (4) Saturday evening indoors in Evansville, Indiana. Roi's triumph Saturday helped the Bruins defeat the Screaming Eagles 4-2, clinching Belmont's spot in the 2026 Horizon League Championship later in April.
Â
An unblemished 4-0 in singles in Horizon League play, including 3-0 at the No. 1 spot, Roi has claimed a team-leading 17 match wins this year, including fall tournament action.
Â
The Bruins return to the Beaman Family Tennis Complex this weekend, hosting crosstown conference rival Tennessee State Friday afternoon. First serve of the Music City matchup is slated for 2 p.m.
