Six Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Athletes Earn Academic All-District Honors

The academic all district teams were announced last week.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Six Belmont University women's cross country and track and field athletes,  Alexa Fortman, Carlota Salgado García, Maggie Swarr, Kate Briscoe, Jennifer Mims, Carson Wasemiller, have been named 2025-26 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District, the organization announced last week.
 
Fortman posted a 4.0 GPA in exercise science. The distance runner out of Ottawa, Ohio earned three top-10 finishes at the MVC Indoor Championships where she placed third in the 800m, fourth in the DMR, and eighth in the 4x400m relay.
 
Salgado García has a 3.98 GPA studying psychological science. The native of Vigo, Spain placed won the heptathlon at the MVC Championships and the high jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational indoor meet.
 
Swarr holds a 3.91 GPA in nursing. The sophomore from Lancaster, Pennsylvania placed second at the MVC Outdoor Championships in javelin.
 
Briscoe holds a 3.71 GPA majoring in exercise science. The javelin thrower from Tecumseh, Ontario finished first at the Hilltopper Relays and earned a third place finish at the MVC Outdoor Championships with a personal-best throw of 42.90m.
 
Mims holds a 4.0 GPA in nursing. The Pensacola, Florida native earned first place in the 400m hurdles at the Hilltopper Relays and at the MVC Outdoor Championships placed sixth in the 4x400m and 11th in the 400m hurdles.
 
Wasemiller holds a 3.99 GPA  as a exercise science major. The junior from Fayetteville, Arkansas placed 11th at the Outdoor Music City Challenge in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:26.51.
 
To earn Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He must have participated in at least 75 percent of his team's games during the regular season.  No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years. For transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible, although graduate students who are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree are eligible even if they are in their first semester at the graduate institution. Nominees in graduate school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above both as an undergrad and in grad school.
