SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Belmont University women's tennis head coach
Ellie Burger will be inducted into Missouri State's 2026-27 Athletics Hall of Fame class. Announced by Missouri State Thursday, Burger led the Bears women's tennis program for two seasons following her illustrious playing career in Springfield, Missouri.
Burger will be inducted into the 51st Missouri State Athletics Hall of Fame class the evening of Friday, Sept. 18 in downtown Springfield.
A native of Chesterfield, Missouri, Burger ranks third all-time in singles winning percentage in Missouri State women's tennis history with a 70.5 career ledger. She became just the 13th player in school history to win a Missouri Valley Conference singles title when she claimed the No. 3 singles crown in 2019. In dual matches, Burger compiled a 43-18 career singles record and was a three-time All-MVC selection (2018, 2019 and 2021).
Burger led the Bears to an MVC team title and NCAA Championship appearance as a freshman in 2018, clinching the championship match against Northern Iowa with a three-set victory at No. 5 singles. The conference title and subsequent NCAA Championship appearance was Missouri State's first since 2002.
A two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honoree (2020 and 2021), Burger served as Missouri State's representative on the MVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and MVC Regulatory Matters Committee. After graduating from Missouri State in December of 2021, Burger was the head coach of the Bears from 2022-24 where she compiled 20 dual match wins. During the 2024 season, Burger's Missouri State squad went 13-10. It was the most wins for the Bears in a single season since the program was resurrected in 2014.
In July of 2024, Burger was named head coach of the Bruins. In her first season in 2025, Burger led Belmont to a 5-3 record in MVC play and a spot in the MVC Championship semifinals.
