NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's soccer earned a scoreless draw against former OVC rival Tennessee Tech Wednesday evening from E.S. Rose Park in the 2026 regular season opener.
 
The match, originally scheduled for Cookeville, was moved to Nashville within 24 hours of kickoff due to field conditions on the Tennessee Tech campus.
 
Belmont controlled much of the play against the defending conference champion Golden Eagles, controlling possession and pressing in the final third much of the match.
 
In the 32^nd minute, the Bruins nearly struck first, but a sharp header from Makira Churchill from a Belmont corner kick rattled off the right post.
 
Lydia Johnson and Katelyn Hnatek distinguished themselves with forceful challenges and strong wins of possession.
 
Play opened up a bit the second 45 minutes, as each team had counter attack opportunities.
 
However, Belmont's depth played a role as the Bruins built a strong attacking push in the final 10 minutes.
 
Belmont earned a string of corner kicks but Tennessee Tech goalkeeper Laila McNamee preserved a clean sheet.
 
In the 87^th minute, Belmont thought it had the game-winner, as defender Lillie Tabor struck a low, left-footed laser from 20 yards out. But McNamee made a diving, fingertip save before the ball found the left side of the net.
 
Belmont outshot Tennessee Tech, 12-1, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Belmont goalkeeper Greta Genie was attentive and organized in earning the shutout.
 
The Bruins (0-0-1) return to action Sunday at Samford. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
