Bruins Fight Hard and Earn Draw Against Marshall

Strong First Half Headlined by Two Goals from Reagan Ross

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Behind a strong first half, Belmont tied a strong Marshall team in a chippy home thriller.
 
Belmont controlled momentum through the first half with several attacking opportunities including two in the first minute of play.
 
The relentless Bruin offense would go on to break the Herd defense in the 15th minute after Kate Virtel chipped the ball into Reagan Ross who placed a shot perfectly over the Marshall keeper to put the Bruins up 1-0.

Just three minutes later, Laken Whittington would play an excellent cross into the box and Ross would leap to receive it with a beautiful header to bury her second goal of the match in just 18 minutes.

The Belmont offense was unstoppable through the first 20 minutes, refusing to give Marshall any breathing room.

In the 38th minute, Wiktoria Mikrut would break away and take a shot that Greta Genie would be able to get a foot on but would squeak into the goal to cut the Bruin lead in half.

Belmont refused to step off the gas, continuing to dominate the attacking third with nine shots in the first half.

After very chippy 45 minutes with 10 fouls between the two teams, the Bruins would head to the locker room up 2-1.
 
The Bruins started off the second half immediately continuing to pressure the Herd entering the attacking third right away and not leaving before Whittington buried a header off a well placed corner kick from Katelyn Hnatek that gave Belmont a 3-1 lead in the 48th minute. The assist gave Hnatek her first collegiate point.

The match stayed chippy throughout the second half including a Marshall PK following a coaches challenge on what was originally called not a foul in the 58th minute. Mikrut would bury it for her second goal of the match to make it 3-2 Belmont.

Belmont refused to let the goal swing momentum and continued their unrelenting attack. Marshall would go on to take back some momentum later on in the match but the Bruins defense remained strong.

Another Marshall challenge in the 74th minute would lead to a second PK that would be scored again by Mikrut to earn herself a hat trick.

Both teams traded attacks but neither could nail the dagger and the match would end in a 3-3 draw.

The game ultimately saw 29 fouls from the two teams including four yellow cards.

Belmont extends their regular season unbeaten streak at home to 11 games dating back to last season.
 
The Bruins (1-2-2) return to action Thursday on the road against U.T. Martin. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
