Belmont Offensive Overload Paired with Defenceive Masterclass Earns Bruins a Draw

Belmont Outshoots UT Martin 17-6 Including a Late Goal from Kaitlyn Elliott

MARTIN, Tenn. - - Behind a relentless offensive attack, and a goal from Kaitlyn Elliott, Belmont University women's soccer earned a hard-fought draw, 1-1, against UT Martin Thursday night from Skyhawk field in Martin, Tennessee.

A back and forth first half saw several attacking opportunities from both sides, including two shots from both Reagan Ross and Alivia Penman.

Greta Genie had an impressive first half including a play that saw her bravely jump right into a cross and colliding with a UT Martin player, preventing a shot and keeping the game scoreless late into the first half.

In the 44th minute, a Belmont foul led to a well placed free kick by UT Martin keeper Mac Titus that would bounce around the box before Allie Carroll was able to sneak one past Genie to put the Skyhawks up 1-0 just before half.

Belmont opened up the first half strong, unwilling to give momentum to UT Martin.

The game continued to go back and forth with every Bruin attack being followed up by a counter attack from the Skyhawks.

Belmont's defense held strong with most UT Martin attack runs being quickly shut down before they could develop.

On the other side of the pitch, the Bruins continued to apply pressure and rip shots off.

Belmont's indomitable spirit would finally break the Skyhawks defense as Ross crossed into Kaitlyn Elliott who drilled her first goal of the season to tie the match in the 83rd minute.

Belmont refused to step off the gas, continuing to dominate the attacking third but were unable to break the tie as time expired.

Belmont's offense and defense shined in the draw out shooting UT Martin 17-6.

The Bruins (1-2-3) return to action Sunday afternoon back on the road against Ole Miss. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
