OXFORD, Miss. - - Belmont University women's soccer came up short but made a statement against Ole Miss falling 1-0 in another brilliant defensive performance from the Bruins.
 
Belmont's defense was tested early by the Rebels but held strong to start the match. 

An unfortunate foul led to an Ole Miss free-kick that was put into the box and Ava Ghoreishi took a well placed shot that Greta Genie was able to get a hand on but was tipped into the back of the net to give Ole Miss a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

The Rebels continued to press the attacking third but the Bruin defense held strong throughout the remainder of the first half.

The depth of the Bruin's bench played a huge factor throughout the first half, keeping fresh legs on the pitch despite the scorching Mississippi heat with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees throughout the match.

The Bruins held down their defensive third against the Rebel's attacks holding Ole Miss to just one goal through 45. 
 
Belmont opened up the second half aggressively, making an attack run that concluded with a shot from Laken Whittington .

Ole Miss continued to test the Bruins throughout the second half, however, Belmont's defense remained sturdy.

The weather continued to play a factor throughout the match with a lighting warning being called at the 58th minute resulting in what was originally a 30 minute stoppage of play.

Nearly two and a half hours later the Bruins were back on the pitch and came back on fire.

Belmont took advantage of the break attacking the Rebels as soon as play resumed.

Belmont continued to pressure Ole Miss mounting several more attacks after new found life following the break.

The offense did not let up, maintaining possession and staying in the attacking third almost exclusively from the resumption of play to the final whistle.

Despite the 1-0 defeat, the Bruins continue to shine through adversity proving once again that there is not a more resilient team than the Belmont Bruins.

The Bruins (1-3-3) return to action Sunday afternoon back on the road again against Southeast Missouri. Match time is set for 3 p.m. CT from Houck Stadium. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
