CLEVELAND – The Belmont University men's tennis team and freshman Jesús Garcia Salgado completed play at the 2026 Horizon League Individual Championships Sunday morning at the Medical Mutal Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland. Salgado finished as singles finalist at the three-day individual conference championships hosted by Cleveland State, coming up just short in the title match to Northern Illinois' Constantin Radu.
A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Salgado took the opening set against Radu in a tiebreaker (7-1) late Sunday morning, before dropping the second and third sets, 6-4, 6-1.
"I'm really proud of Jesús' (Garcia Salgado) performance at the tournament as a whole," commented head coach
Jeff Cero. "He put himself in a great position throughout the match today but missed some opportunities and struggled to adjust and execute in certain moments. His opponent played really well and stepped up at various points, showing a lot of experience in a championship match."
"It was such a good learning experience for Jesús," continued coach Cero. "We're excited to get back on the court with him and the rest of the team this week."
It marked the second consecutive year the Bruins had a player in the singles championship match at the Horizon League Individual Championships.
