NASHVILLE, TENN. - - Belmont University men's basketball head coach Rick Byrd announced Saturday the signing of J.J. Mann to a national letter of intent.

Mann, a 6-6 swingman from Smyrna, Ga., was a three-year letterwinner for Marist High School outside of Atlanta. As a senior, Mann averaged 18.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.9 assists per game in leading Marist to a 24-5 record. He averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game as a junior on 43 percent shooting from three-point distance.

A capable and proven scorer, Mann was named First Team All-State by the Georgia Associated Press Basketball Writers, Atlantic Journal-Constitution and GACA Coaches. Additionally, Mann was a McDonald's All-American nominee and was chosen as the MVP of the prestigious Maui High School Winter Classic, where Marist defeated San Diego High in the final.

"J.J. is a smart, tough, hard-working player with a fine understanding of the game," Byrd said. "Strangely enough, we find ourselves in need of more outside shooting and J.J. will be a welcomed addition to our program as a player and student."

Mann will play the 2009-10 season for Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.
