Tennessee Tech Tops Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont surrendered a season-high 18 hits in a 15-5 loss to Tennessee Tech on Tuesday evening at Shelby Park.

 

Tennessee Tech: 15 (10-11)
Belmont: 5 (13-8)

 

Winning pitcher: Ryan Hopkins (2-2)
Losing pitcher: Dalton Bell (1-1)

 

Belmont hitting: After Tech scored two runs in the first inning, Belmont took the lead with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a two-run double from Mark Noth. Sophomore Dylan Craig extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the first, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior Derek Hamblen hit his second homerun of the season in the fifth inning, and finished with two hits and two runs scored.

 

Belmont pitching: Belmont threw six pitchers, as the pitching staff set season hits for hits allowed (18), and tied season-highs for runs (15) and earned runs (14). In his second start of the season Dalton Bell (1-1) gave up four earned runs in the first and part of the second to receive the loss. Frank Adelman pitched three innings in his first appearance since leaving the Jacksonville game with a minor injury.

 

Tennessee Tech hitting: The Golden Eagles hit four homeruns, as A.J. Kirby Jones went 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs scored, and two homeruns. Chad Oberacker went 3-for-6 and Seth Edwards went 3-for-6 with three RBI. Tech's 18 hits are a season-high for a Belmont opponent in 2010.

 

Tennessee Tech pitching: Junior lefty Chad Oberacker started, but shifted to designated hitter after allowing three runs in the first inning. Freshman Ryan Hopkins (2-2) pitched the next 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and four hits to earn his second win of the season. Junior Wade Bilbery threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts, including a stretch of five straight fans in the fifth.

 

Belmont will head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., tomorrow for the second matchup of the season with Middle Tennessee State beginning at 6 p.m., at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
