RICHMOND, Va. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to action Monday night at Richmond in the opening game of the Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament.
The Bruins opened the 2013-14 campaign with an 87-83 victory at Nashville rival Lipscomb. Senior J.J. Mann led five Bruins in double figures with 21 points.
This marks the second time in as many seasons that Belmont will play in the River City of Richmond. The Bruins dropped a 75-65 decision at VCU last season.
One of Richmond's biggest victories in recent memory came at the hands of Belmont's Nashville neighbor, Vanderbilt. The Spiders defeated the Commodores, 69-66, in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings and Belmont head coach Rick Byrd are close friends. Richmond then defeated Belmont's OVC divisional foe Morehead State in the third round to advance to the Sweet 16.
Belmont is 1-3 lifetime against current members of the Atlantic 10 Conference (1-0 Fordham, 0-1 Richmond, 0-1 Saint Louis, 0-1 VCU).
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT from the new-look Robins Center. The live play-by-play of Voice of the Bruins Kevin Ingram can be heard on the Bruin Sports Network.
UPDATE: Comcast Mid-Atlantic will televise the Belmont @ Richmond game live.
