NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Former Belmont University men's basketball support staff member T.J. Saint has been named assistant coach of the New York Knicks, Ian Begley of SNY reported earlier this week.
Saint joins the coaching staff of two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown.
Saint served as head coach of the Birmingham Squadron - the NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans - since 2022.
Birmingham was the top ranked offense in the G League during the 2023-24 season.
The Indiana native served as a student assistant with the Bruins from 2009-11 while he completed his bachelor's degree in business development from Belmont. He was a member of consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference championships and the 2011 Belmont team that went 30-5, reached the NCAA Tournament, and finished ranked No. 23 nationally on kempom.com.
Saint spent the previous three seasons with the Pelicans' G League affiliate teams as associate head coach (2020-22) and as an assistant coach (2019-20).
Previously, Saint served as the director of basketball strategy for the University of Georgia men's basketball program during the 2018-19 season.
Prior to Athens, Saint was the video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons from 2014-18.
He also served as director of basketball operations and graduate assistant at Butler University while earning a master's degree in effective teaching and leadership.
Belmont University men's basketball has been a postseason fixture for the last two decades, including nine berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 20 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (behind Gonzaga and Kansas). Belmont has won 20 or more games in 15 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga, Kansas, and Oregon) and 19 or more games in 20 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga, Kansas, and San Diego State). Belmont is among select programs with two or more first-round selections in the NBA Draft over the last six years (Ben Sheppard, Dylan Windler). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 19 Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of its existence. Belmont is the only NCAA Division I institution in America whose men's and women's basketball programs have won 20 or more games in 10 consecutive seasons.
