NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball hosts Indiana State Thursday in its 2013-14 home opener.
The Bruins dropped a 69-61 decision at Richmond Monday night in the opening game of the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament. Seniors Drew Windler (South Milwaukee, Wisc.) and Blake Jenkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) each scored 13 points.
Indiana State defeated Ball State, 82-73, Nov. 9. The Sycamores return a core nucleus that defeated the likes of Final Four participant Wichita State, SEC Champion Ole Miss and ACC Champion Miami a year ago.
Belmont and Indiana State will play a rare non-conference home-and-home series in the same season. The Bruins play in Terre Haute Dec. 28. Some other programs Belmont has done this with in recent memory include: Marshall, Middle Tennessee, and Wright State.
Belmont junior Spencer Turner (Bloomington, Ind.) is the son of former Indiana State player Scott Turner. Turner played on the 1979 Indiana State team featuring Larry Bird that reached the National Championship game.
The Bruins' last Missouri Valley Conference meeting was a 92-76 victory at Evansville in the 2009 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
