Men's Basketball Faces Kentucky Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky. - - Belmont University men's basketball continues its rigorous stretch of non-conference play Saturday at [19/21] Kentucky.

All six Belmont opponents in the month of December played in the 2013 NCAA Tournament or 2013 Postseason NIT (VCU, Middle Tennessee, South Dakota State, Denver, Kentucky, Indiana State).

The Bruins dropped a 90-62 decision at defending WAC Champion Denver Tuesday.

Belmont head coach Rick Byrd and Kentucky head coach John Calipari have met once before. Belmont played at Calipari's Memphis team Dec. 17, 2003, dropping an 89-83 decision.

Byrd and Calipari have strong NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores to their credit. Byrd and Belmont have posted perfect 1000 scores seven of the last eight years, while Calipari has been 975 or higher five of the last six years.

Belmont has two victories against current members of the Southeastern Conference: at Missouri (71-67, 12/30/03) and at Alabama (85-83, 11/19/07).

In fact, the Bruins' last seven contests against SEC teams have been decided by nine points or less.

Though Belmont has never faced Kentucky, redshirt senior Drew Windler (South Milwaukee, Wisc.) played in Rupp Arena for Samford University on Dec. 20, 2011. Windler scored a team-high 11 points.

Tip-off is set for Noon ET/11:00 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app.

The live play-by-play of Voice of the Bruins Kevin Ingram can be heard on the Bruin Sports Network and 104.5 The Zone Nashville. In-game updates will be provided on Twitter @BelmontMBB.
