NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns home to face Murray State Thursday night.
The Bruins dropped an 81-76 decision at Tennessee Tech Feb. 1. Belmont shot 39 percent from the field, just third time in 25 games that the Bruins shot under 40 percent from the field. Sophomore Craig Bradshaw (Ridgetop, Tenn.) led the way with 23 points.
Belmont University Director of Athletics Mike Strickland held the same position at Murray State from 1987-96. Strickland has been the lone athletic director of Belmont's NCAA Division I era.
Belmont Director of Basketball Operations Tyler Holloway was a four-year letterwinner at Murray State from 2006-09. Holloway scored 1,083 career points, and played three season for Murray State head coach Steve Prohm when Prohm served as an assistant coach to Billy Kennedy.
This marks the eighth meeting between Belmont and Murray State. The Bruins and Racers split two contests last season, with Murray State winning at home, 79-74, and Belmont winning the OVC Championship, 70-68, in overtime.
Last year's OVC Championship game between Belmont and Murray State featured seven seniors now playing professionally. (Belmont: Clark, Johnson, Noack; Murray State: Canaan, Daniel, Garrett, Wilson). Clark and Canaan - who shared OVC Player of the Year honors - are rookies in the NBA.
Last year's OVC Championship game between Belmont and Murray State was the highest rated game on ESPN2 during championship week.
